What is a complete feed?
A complete feed has everything the animal needs in the bag. It can be the whole diet with nothing added. Examples: complete layer pellets, complete rabbit pellets, senior horse feed. If the tag doesn't say "complete," the feed is meant to be fed alongside something else, like hay or a mineral.
What's the difference between a supplement, a mineral, and a premix?
A supplement fixes one specific shortfall in the diet, for example, extra protein for cattle on pasture. It isn't a full ration by itself. A mineral mix supplies the major and trace minerals (often with salt and vitamins), fed free-choice at a few ounces a day. A premix is a concentrated blend of vitamins and trace minerals that gets mixed into feed in small amounts. The grain it's mixed with is just the carrier.

How do I compare two bags that look the same?
Read the tag. The guaranteed analysis lists minimums for what you want (protein, fat) and maximums for what you don't (fiber, moisture). Ingredients are listed heaviest first. Two bags with the same guarantees can still feed differently: some brands keep the exact same recipe every batch, while others swap ingredients as commodity prices change.
